This term the children have been having lots of fun and learning through activities based on Julia Donaldson’s beloved book, The Gruffalo. We have used role play, small world and story stones to really get to know the story well. We have had so much fun following the Gruffalo trail and retelling the story in Forest School!
One day, the children got a big surprise when the Gruffalo came to visit in our playground! He was very shy though, and ran away when he saw the children watching him! Maybe he will come back one day, if we make him some special Gruffalo food… he might even leave us a Gruffalo egg to hatch into our very own Gruffalo’s child. Watch this space!

It’s only 34 sleeps till Christmas! The children have been busy constructing a Gingerbread House for their Christmas role play, complete with flying reindeer!
Thank you to everyone who brought in boxes wrapped in Christmas paper, we are using them to get lots of Maths into our play, comparing, sorting and counting them.
The children are enjoying writing Christmas cards for each other and posting them in their trays and other interesting locations!
The children are also practising their singing for our upcoming Carol Concert, we look forward to sharing some old and new classics with you! It really is “the most wonderful time of the year” at Nursery 🙂

Today in Nursery, the children looked at a painting called “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” by Georges Seurat.
We zoomed in on the image to see how the painting is made up of many dots of different colours. We then used a digital microscope to look at objects more closely and observe how everything is made up of smaller components.
The children will be making their own artwork using their own version of pointillism over the next week or so. There will be an exhibition of their work along with the rest of the school coming up, so watch this space!
