Aycliffe Drive Primary School will provide for all staff and pupils the opportunities and support to be able to be successful and to cherish our school.
Aycliffe Drive is a school where all our pupils matter to us.
Aycliffe Drive is a ‘can do’ school for all where every child matters. We strongly believe that every child is unique and therefore brings different experiences, skills and ideas into the classroom. This in turn influences how they and others around them learn. We would like all children to achieve their very best in all areas of school life.
When looking to the future, our vision is to ensure that Aycliffe Drive continues to be recognised as having a caring, nurturing environment and as a strongly performing school.
We have the drive and determination to be the best we possibly can be and all staff have outstanding aspirations on behalf of all pupils in their care. For our children the outcomes both academically and as a well-rounded citizen are equally important. We do this by promoting a positive growth mindset, lifelong learning and we encourage everyone to have a love of acquiring knowledge and skills. We strive for this by consistently delivering very good levels of attainment and achievement in all areas of the curriculum.
Our curriculum has been redesigned subject by subject with the intention of making important links, broadening horizons and widening cultural capital. This will empower children to be curious about the world around them. We firmly believe that reading is the ‘master skill’. Our systematic teaching of reading gives our children the confidence and life-long love of reading.
A huge emphasis is placed on developing our children’s physical and mental well being. We also provide pupils and staff with the confidence, knowledge and experience to be successful.
We are an outward facing school and work collaboratively and strive to communicate effectively. We aim to provide young people with the experiences they need to develop into confident individuals and responsible citizens who are equipped with the skills to meet the ever-changing demands of 21st century life in modern Britain.
At Aycliffe Drive, we are a values school. Being a values school creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic achievement and develops students’ social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives. We focus on one value each half term, such as respect, honesty, etc. This can be done in class by the teacher talking to the class about the value, doing a task around the value and/or having an assembly on the value.
We are a friendly Pre-School based on the grounds of Aycliffe Drive Primary School and Aycliffe Drive Nursery but are fully independent from both the school and the nursery.
We provide a fun learning experience for children aged 2 to 4 years.
We follow the Foundation Stage curriculum published by the Department for Education which divides children’s learning into seven areas:
Three Primary Areas:
Four Specific Areas:
We have a close relationship with Aycliffe Drive Primary School meaning the transition between Pre-School and Nursery is a natural progression. Our team of staff are qualified, experienced and caring, and constantly undergoing training to suit the needs of our setting.

Being a one and a half-form entry school means we can take forty-five children in each year group. The children are organised chronologically. In Reception the children are provisionally allocated to one of the two classes. The pattern established on admission means that children will progress through the school with children of their own age, normally in a class with less than a chronological year between them.
The organisation pattern for 1½ forms of entry:
Nursery (Fir) – (15 hour and 30 hours places)
Within each class the teaching and learning will vary from whole class teaching to group work –either independently or under the direction of an adult – and children working individually.
Teachers will group children for some activities using a variety of criteria and work maybe differentiated according to age or the ability of individual children.
Our pattern of organisation allows staff and children to work closely together within their Key stage groups. Planning across a Key stage group facilitates equity in provision and allows staff to share each other’s strengths. We know our children very well and cater for their individuality.
Mrs Halai works as a KS2 writing moderator. This involves her visiting different schools and discussing writing judgements with the teachers at the other schools. Her training is reviewed annually, and this supports us in making sure that we are always evaluating our own writing curriculum correctly.
Aycliffe Drive Primary is a community school, with a nursery and pre-school, serving Grove Hill and the surrounding areas. We have 340 pupils ranging in ages from 3 to 11.
We provide a safe and happy environment where the children can strive to be their very best. The school has a family feel with many ex-pupils choosing to send their own children here.
If parents require a paper copy of any of the information on our website, please contact the school office.
Welcome to Aycliffe Drive Primary School – a place of nurture, excitement and growth. I am delighted and proud to be the Headteacher of such a unique and vibrant place to learn.
At Aycliffe Drive Primary School, we have a dedicated and passionate team of teachers, who provide a safe and stimulating environment. We strive for pupils to thrive and achieve their full potential. We work with our parents, governors and staff with the one single aim of improving outcomes for all our pupils in all aspects. We plan lessons to address the needs of all pupils, placing high and ambitious expectations at the centre of all learning opportunities.
We have designed our curriculum to provide enriching experiences to develop the whole child, both academically and socially, with the desire for them to make a positive contribution to the society that they live in, both now and in the future. Our curriculum is planned to foster curiosity in pupils, aiming for their interest to be sparked to want to find out more. We want our children to be self-disciplined, lifelong learners.
We have a wonderful learning environment. A number of outdoor spaces surround the school building. We have a forest school that all children regularly visit to support their learning, an adventure playground and lots of playground space.
Ultimately, we provide a happy and safe place where pupils want to learn and enjoy coming to school. This is promoted through our core values, which very much form the fabric of our school.
You are very welcome to visit our school. Appointments can be arranged with our office team via emailing admin@aycliffedrive.herts.sch.uk or calling 01442 973174.
