In Birch class for our topic this term, we have been learning all about Brazil. We looked at the city of Rio de Janeiro and learned about the famous carnival held there. We listened to some samba music and made our own carnival masks. We had lots of fun!
In Birch class the children listened to the full version of The Carnival of the Animals while learning about the composer Camille Saint-Saens. We experimented with different instruments to recreate the sounds of different segments of the music. During P.E the children created different dances of the music and then made masks to wear to perform our final piece.
In Birch class, our topic this term is ‘Seasides’. We will be learning all about different seaside holidays, locating seaside towns on a map, learning about seaside features and looking at seaside holidays in the past and comparing them to today. We have created our new role-play area and the children have had lots of fun at the seaside!
This year’s picture is “Woman in a Hat and A fur Coat” by Pablo Picasso. Each class uses a picture for inspiration for their art work. Some of our classes created with own art work inspired by the Pablo Picasso artwork and others used his cubism style of art to inspire their own paintings.
Cubism is a style of art which aims to show all of the possible viewpoints of a person or an object all at once. It is called Cubism because the items represented in the artworks look like they are made out of cubes and other geometrical shapes. Cubism was first started by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
All the art work was displayed in the hall for all the children to enjoy.
We had a fantastic day, re enacting the Battle of Hastings, playing Anglo Saxon games and devising our battle strategy!
We have been very busy in Birch making stained glass biscuits. We made the biscuit dough then crushed some sweets and put them in the middle of the biscuit and finally they went into the oven to bake. The biscuits will be sent home tomorrow for families to enjoy!
We hope everyone has a lovely Christmas from all staff in Birch.
We are looking at different materials. We retold the story of the three little pigs who made their houses out of different materials. We then made houses for our little pigs. Straw proved very hard to build with.
