Key Stage 1 took part in a ‘Battle of Hastings’ workshop to finish off their history work on castles and monarchs. They learnt how Duke William fought and won the Battle to become King of England and was then known as William the Conqueror.
King William built the first castles in the country to guard against his many enemies. The children learnt about the different weapons that were used in battle and how to use them. They acted out different battle formations and used shields and (safe!) lances.
We planned our own invasion and also learnt to play Anglo-Saxon games.
The children had a great day and consolidated all their learning from this half term.
