Tree Identification
This week in Forest School we are learning to identify the different trees on our school grounds. We used the different shapes of the leaves to identify the Oak , Sycamore, Lime and Ash tree on the KS1 playground. This is the Sycamore leaf which has five fingers.
WW2 London Skyline
In Art Redwood have been re-creating the London Skyline during the Blitz. We have used our watercolour techniques for the sky showing how the sky glowed red and orange from the burning buildings. We then created an effective skyline silhouette for the buildings and the air raid lights in the sky.
Getting to know you
In Chestnut Class we have been getting to know each other as part of the new school year. We have lots of Harry Potter fans in our class so we had a wizarding theme. We told the class all about ourselves and also thought about what our patronus and boggert would be.
Harry Potter Oak
We had such a wonderful day at Harry Potter. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and have been able to bring back plenty to use in their English.
It’s safe to say that we definitely have some new Harry Potter fans in the class now!
Harry Potter World
Year 5/6 enjoyed a busy day visiting the home where the Harry Potter films were filmed. They were able to see some of the original sets, costumes, the original character masks and the design and making of the many animals.
The classes also took part in a workshop based on ‘Fantasy Story Writing’ where each group were given different props to assist with their ideas.
As an added bonus each child was given the opportunity to ride the famous broomstick and have a picture taken as a souvenir.
The Gruffalo
The Reception children have been enjoying exploring and and playing in our Gruffalo role play.
Which material absorbs the sound?
In 4 Willow, we have been studying sound in Science. In our experiment we used cling film, a tea towel, bubble wrap, tin foil and a newspaper. We made the test fair by making everything the size of the tea towel, wrapping them all in the I pad with a timer that sounded a bell after fifteen seconds. Our results showed that bubble wrap was 1st, absorbing most of the sound with foil absorbing hardly any.
We used ear defenders to see how much they absorbed the sound around us.
Harry Potter World Trip
Redwood Class Year 6 had a fabulous day out in connection to their English Unit on fantasy fiction which focussed on the work of J.K. Rowling and her fabulous Harry Potter series. We all experienced a ride on a broomstick, window shopped in diagonal alley, feasted our eyes in the Hogwarts hall and did a brilliant workshop to inspire our writing and reading in the genre. They children were model representatives for the school and despite being very excited enjoyed the day with beautiful behaviour displayed. Well done Redwood.
