Five little speckled frogs

Five little speckled frogs sat on a speckled log Eating some most delicious bugs Yum yum One jumped into the pool Where it was nice and cool And what did we find?

Nursery walking through the jungle.

Walking through the jungle, What do you see? Can you hear a noise? What do you see? A fox looking for his tea. A Gruffalo looking for his tea. I wonder if they enjoyed the children’s mud soup.

Making nests

In nursery we listened to the birds singing. In spring the birds make nests for their eggs. We made nests for our birds.  

Learning how seeds grow

Today we talked about how seeds grow and what they needed to grow. We planted French beans, radish and lettuce into a vegetable bed and the same seeds into cups with water.  

Easter activities in the woods

On the way to forest school we checked our pond for signs of spring. We have Frog spawn. We had an Easter egg hunt before enjoying hot chocolate and hot crossed buns by the fire.

The Great Fire of London

The children in KS1 are learning about the Great Fire of London. As part of their homework the children made houses. The children built Pudding Lane in the woods to recreate the Great fire.

Easter rabbits and chicks

This week in Key Stage 1 we used our sawing skills to make wooden discs. We used felt, pipe cleaners and brightly coloured feathers to make Easter rabbits and chicks. These are currently displayed in our classrooms.

Soil investigations

Moving on from the rocks, Hawthorn have been looking at soil. They have made close observations to see what they think soil is made of and have carried a second investigation out to see which soils around the school have the best drainage (soil permeability).                              

Redwood Viking/Anglo-Saxon day in Forest School

Redwood had a great time in forest school completing various activities. We made a full sized longship outline using branches, honey glazed root vegetables (using a Viking recipe), an Anglo-Saxon house, bows and arrows and found artefacts.

Classifying birds

In key stage 1 we are learning to classify birds into new groups. We have a wide variety of birds that visit our woods. It is important that our birds can find a safe warm place to sleep. To keep warm we feed the birds with a variety of foods. We all made bird feeders […]
