“Take One” Art
This year’s picture is “Woman in a Hat and A fur Coat” by Pablo Picasso. Each class uses a picture for inspiration for their art work. Some of our classes created with own art work inspired by the Pablo Picasso artwork and others used his cubism style of art to inspire their own paintings.
Cubism is a style of art which aims to show all of the possible viewpoints of a person or an object all at once. It is called Cubism because the items represented in the artworks look like they are made out of cubes and other geometrical shapes. Cubism was first started by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
All the art work was displayed in the hall for all the children to enjoy.
Redwood’s “Take One” Art
We have been busy in Redwood creating our “Take One” pictures. This year’s picture is “Woman in a Hat and A fur Coat” by Pablo Picasso. Pablo Picasso is one of the greatest and most-influential artists of the 20th century and the creator (with Georges Braque) of Cubism.
Cubism use simple geometric shapes, interlocking planes. Using inspiration from a modern cubism painter Amada Hone, the children have created their own cubism painting using acrylic paints.
Go Ape Wendover Woods
Year 6 had an adventure filled day today at Wendover Woods doing the Go Ape Activity. We had the opportunity of learning key PSHE skills like resilience, what makes a good team player and the importance of following rules in different setting to stay safe. Many of them overcome their fears and they all completed the course.
Imperial War Museum Duxford – Redwood
Redwood Class Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic day at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in connection to their learning on WWII and specifically the Battle of Britain. We created documentaries in the shape of short films during a brilliant ‘hands on’ workshop and then explored the various Musuem exhibits including the American Aircraft section.
Redwood WWII Foraging
Redwood Class enjoyed going foraging this week in connection to their WWII learning. We found lots of wild berries and used these to follow a WWII rationing recipe to make a delicious crumble! We used many cross-curriculum skills in these activities including following instructional texts and design and technology cooking techniques and methods.

Harry Potter World Trip
Redwood Class Year 6 had a fabulous day out in connection to their English Unit on fantasy fiction which focussed on the work of J.K. Rowling and her fabulous Harry Potter series. We all experienced a ride on a broomstick, window shopped in diagonal alley, feasted our eyes in the Hogwarts hall and did a brilliant workshop to inspire our writing and reading in the genre. They children were model representatives for the school and despite being very excited enjoyed the day with beautiful behaviour displayed. Well done Redwood.
Shadow Puppet Show
In Redwood Class Year 6 we used our understanding of how shadows are formed and how they can be made smaller or larger depending on their distance from a light source to create a shadow puppet show in which Isaac Newton and his peers are the main characters debating his revolutionary ideas about light.
