In Birch class this week we went to the sports centre for a competition. The children worked so hard and it was a lot of fun! We came 5th and are very proud of all the children for taking part and behaving well.

Today we looked at other ways of identifying winter trees. Different trees, the oak tree has a broad and spreading crown. Our oak trees are 16meters tall. The bark is very bumpy and rough We identified the trees from their buds.

Our topic this term is ‘Titanic’. In birch we have been having fun in our role play area, playing captain of the ship, looking for icebergs and booking in passengers.

We have been learning to identify trees in the winter. In summer we can use their leaves but in winter we can use their buds and shape. Can you identify this tree from the KS1 playground? The buds are black.
